Mode switching and standing-travelling waves in slug flow-induced vibration of catenary riser

چکیده
An experiment in a small-scale air-water test loop is performed to investigate the flow-induced vibration behaviors of flexible catenary riser conveying slug flow over wide range gas-to-liquid rate ratios from 1.0 4.5. The clamped-clamped model has an inner diameter 4 mm and aspect ratio with length about 360. non-intrusive high-speed cameras are employed simultaneously capture dynamics internal unsteady characteristics. space-time varying features presented discussed terms response amplitudes, frequencies, modal components, associated forces. Slug properties including translational velocities, lengths, fluctuation frequencies pressure changes reported. When increasing rates, experimental results highlight how variation frequency contributes mode-switching phenomenon time. This switching dominant first-mode second-mode leads transition standing wave travelling response. amplitudes amplified by increased velocity length, entailing momentum gravitational forces, as increased. Consequently, higher modes participate into exhibiting strong multi-mode competition.

Cascade Control Experiments of Riser Slug Flow Using Topside Measurements
Anti-slug control applied to two-phase flow provides a very challenging and important application for feedback control. It is important because it allows for operation that would otherwise be impossible, and challenging because of the presence of both RHP-poles and RHP-zeros. To conduct experiments on pipeline-riser anti-slug control, a small-scale slug-loop has been build. The loop has been mo...

Summary This is the second of two papers describing control experiments on a medium-scale slug rig. The first paper (Sivertsen et al. 2009) describes experiments performed on a small-scale laboratory rig built at the Norwegian University of ...
متن کاملStanding and travelling waves in cylindrical Rayleigh–Bénard convection
The Boussinesq equations for Rayleigh–Bénard convection are simulated for a cylindrical container with an aspect ratio near 1.5. The transition from an axisymmetric stationary flow to timedependent flows is studied using nonlinear simulations, linear stability analysis and bifurcation theory. At a Rayleigh number near 25000, the axisymmetric flow becomes unstable to standing or travelling azimu...

متن کاملHighly symmetric travelling waves in pipe flow.
The recent theoretical discovery of finite-amplitude travelling waves (TWs) in pipe flow has reignited interest in the transitional phenomena that Osborne Reynolds studied 125 years ago. Despite all being unstable, these waves are providing fresh insight into the flow dynamics. We describe two new classes of TWs, which, while possessing more restrictive symmetries than previously found TWs of F...
